DARRAN Showroom
This Chicago showroom interior design was inspired by the North Carolina landscape, where DARRAN is headquartered. Kuchar coupled that concept with a trend-forward material palette that brings surprise and delight to visitors at NeoCon and in The Mart in Chicago. The showroom is warm and inviting, allowing all who visit to feel welcome and a sense of belonging. When we kicked off this project, we presented two concepts. The first focused on bringing a sense of wonder and d

Financial Firm Bristol: engineering endeavor
Jumping over the pond to the UK city of Bristol, Kuchar had to opportunity to work on an office for a financial firm. Weaving in inspiration from not only what the employees are going to create, but from the sites and textures of the surrounding city. Bristol also has a unique connection to airplanes, with it being the final landing place of the Concorde. Below is a page right out of our presentation showing the imagery that inspired the space. We were also afforded the chan

Muse: building a community
Muse Community + Design is a fellow woman-owned local company who offers inventive and inspiring solutions to help communities manage change. Recently they moved to a new office in Wicker Park, tapping Kuchar in the process to help bring their space to life. We were very inspired by the mission of the company and really wanted to create a space that reflected their ethos - and also their new branding! They had recently rebranded, bringing a fun and bright visual identity to t

A Nook within a nook
They say good things come in small packages. That seems the best way to describe this small but mighty showroom. We had less than 300sf to make an impact. At about 40 feet wide and 7 feet deep, we needed the product finishes to shine and find the right placement for the brand’s message. We selected a spiced orange tone for the walls and a contrasting warm white for the handwritten font that walks clients through what a Nook is and the benefits it creates. It's a principle tha

Scandinavian Spaces: a place for fika.
The Swedish concept of fika makes its way to the Merchandise Mart. More than just caffeinating while enjoying a sweet pastry, fika is a way of life and can be argued, is more about socializing. This was the basis surrounding Kuchar's design concept for the new Scandinavian Spaces showroom. The goal was to immerse guests in the company's playful furniture while being surrounded by thoughtful design. We proposed a sophisticated palette that elevates the look while allowing them

Framery Showroom: a nimble quest
If a client were to ask for a design and construction schedule we would recommend about six months. We met with the Framery team in their new space just five weeks before the first day of Neocon and quickly realized they were in need of a complete showroom design. "Quickly" doesn't begin to describe our next steps . Framery's product line includes pods and booths which give users a quiet place to work and meet. Their needs were simple, they needed ample floor space to displ

Project Tour: Alice & Wonder
As designers, we are naturally attracted to all things pretty & fun - so when Alice & Wonder reached out for help with their new location, we were very excited! The Chicago-based boutique already had one storefront in Lincoln Park that caters to their more youthful clientele, and they wanted to open a Southport location that better fit that demographic while still ringing true to their bright, happy vibe. To make this space feel fresh, feminine, and elevated, we used a soft p

Project Tour: Forest Glen Residence
If you’re reading this, you likely already know that we are more than here for bold design and color moments. When our client casually mentioned that she’d been dreaming about a green kitchen, we calmly agreed that’s what we should do. Located in the charming neighborhood of Forest Glen, the home’s exterior was renovated to follow a more contemporary aesthetic. The interior design however took on a quaint, modern vintage look. Tarkett: a big move
It's always a nice feeling when our industry partners approach us for design collaboration. We were floored when Tarkett connected with us for their new West Loop showroom. Their goal for the space was to combine the existing showroom with their office environment to create an inviting and functional space for all. The space itself is an inspiring one. Located in the heart of Fulton Market, the 10,000 SF floor plate boasts nearly 360-degree floor-to-ceiling windows that overl

Project Tour: Honey Bridal
There’s a buzz about a new bridal boutique in town! Last spring, Honey Bridal relocated from Andersonville to West Town and Kuchar was selected to design the interior. This woman-owned independent bridal boutique wanted a space that reflected their brand and unique clientele. Fit for a bride who wears a leather jacket on her special day. Edgy, moody, luxurious, yet comforting and elegant. Hello, drama, rich greens, bold floral patterns, and gold accents! This unique palette a

Colorful banquette with acoustic overhead lights at ERG showroom ERG International contacted Kuchar to design their first Merchandise Mart showroom in over 10 years. They were celebrating 40 years as a company and wanted to bring that celebration into the showroom interior design. Their two goals for the showroom design were to create a comfortable, hygge vibe mixed with hints of the 1980's when their company was created. Our design solution resulted in a blend between res

Project Tour - 9to5 Showroom
For 9to5’s new showroom, our goal was to create a clean, white, “blank slate” gallery that could be easily added to and modified over the years, bringing in a colorblocked motif through removable elements. Curved platforms and organic rug shapes create a modern, energetic and inviting space that really highlights the range of award-winning product the brand produces. The flow of color through the space – a nod to the brand’s name – was inspired by daylight from morning to nig
