A Nook Within a Nook at the Merchandise Mart
Nook designs modular, mobile pods that give people a quiet place to focus, collaborate, or step away from sensory overload. A product built on neuroinclusive principles and a philosophy of care. For their space on the tenth floor of the Merchandise Mart, the brief was to show that idea at full scale inside roughly 300 square feet, a narrow room measuring about forty feet wide and seven feet deep. Kuchar answered with a nook within a nook, carving intentional moments of intimacy that make the footprint feel larger and more layered. A spiced-orange wall anchors the room, angular paint transitions echo the pitched roofline of the pods themselves, and the brand's oversized double O's sit on sliding glass doors, legible whether open or closed. Layered textiles, furniture, and rugs concentrate texture into each display.
A showroom at a destination like the Merchandise Mart has to earn attention in seconds, and compact spaces demand the most discipline. Effective showroom design in Chicago turns square footage into sequence, using color, lighting, and sightlines to walk a visitor through the story of a product rather than simply arranging it on a floor.
