With just five weeks to design and build the showroom, Kuchar worked hand-in-hand with the client and contractor to bring them a space that represents their new brand direction.

A Five-Week Showroom Debut at the Merchandise Mart
Framery, the Finland-based manufacturer whose acoustic pods and booths have become the standard for quiet work and meeting space, came to Kuchar for its first Chicago showroom — a debut display set within the Merchandise Mart and timed to open for NeoCon. The brief carried an unusual constraint: five weeks from concept to completion, against a typical six-month arc. Kuchar responded with a design built on a few decisive moves instead of ornament. A single bold color sweeps the ceiling and columns to turn a neutral hallway into a destination, while a feature wall of alternating two-by-fours, each face painted a different tone, adds depth without added cost. A carpenter-built hospitality counter topped in remnant tile gives the room a glossy focal point, and a mix of wood-look and woven flooring quietly marks each zone.
Fast-track showroom design in Chicago rewards clarity of decision, since a short timeline leaves no room for finishes that do not earn their place. A trade-show debut asks the showroom to work as both a product display and a hospitality space, giving designers and clients room to sit, talk, and experience the pods in use. Showroom interior design at this pace depends on close collaboration with the contractor, daily problem-solving, and a palette of a few materials used with intent rather than a long list applied thinly.
