This showroom interior design was inspired by the North Carolina landscape, where DARRAN is headquartered. Kuchar coupled that concept with a trend-forward material palette that brings surprise and delight to visitors at NeoCon and in The Mart in Chicago. The showroom is warm and inviting, allowing all who visit to feel welcome and a sense of belonging.

A Showroom Rooted in the Carolina Landscape
DARRAN, a North Carolina furniture manufacturer known for considered, designer-led collections, asked Kuchar for a NeoCon showroom that would stand apart from its neighbors inside The Mart in Chicago. Kuchar drew the palette straight from DARRAN's home state — the red Carolina clay, the greens of the landscape, and the blues of sea and sky. Warm browns and teals shape the architecture, while eggplant, butter yellow, and warm green accents give the space its trend-forward edge. A custom mural washes the walls in gradients of blue and rust, and four sculptural acoustic clouds, inspired by topographic mapping, float above softened, totem-like vignettes. The result earned Kuchar its first Best of Year honor and took Best of Show at NeoCon 2024 — a warm, inviting counterpoint to the cooler showrooms around it.
A showroom at NeoCon has only a few seconds to earn a designer's attention, which makes showroom design in Chicago as much about storytelling as square footage.
