Two years after designing the original Scandinavian Spaces, Kuchar was tasked with reimagining the showroom with a neutral and elevated design. The light refresh included updating select architectural finishes as well as all furniture finishes. The final result is an ode to classic Scandinavian design - welcoming and soft.

A Scandinavian Showroom, Reimagined
Two years after Kuchar first built Scandinavian Spaces a fika-inspired showroom, the Nordic furniture curator returned to reimagine the same Suite 366 at The Mart in Chicago for NeoCon 2025. Where the original leaned playful, this iteration is quieter and more elevated. Kuchar kept the room's strong bones and reworked it through selective architectural updates and a complete refresh of every furniture finish, shifting the palette toward neutral tones, dark charcoal accents, and classic Scandinavian pattern. Kuchar Owner, Sarah Kuchar-Parkinson, described the new direction as a moodier, more sophisticated take — a deliberate break from the brighter energy of years past. The beloved ScandiCafé remains, serving traditional Swedish coffee, while collections like Oasis and Able sit against a softer, more tactile backdrop. The result is an ode to classic Scandinavian design: welcoming, warm, and quietly confident.
Refreshing an existing space asks something different of showroom interior designers than a ground-up build — the goal is to honor what already works while elevating the palette, the finishes, and the overall tone. Thoughtful showroom design in Chicago treats a refresh as a chance to sharpen a brand's point of view, trading trends for timelessness and letting refined materials do the talking. Inside The Mart, where returning visitors remember last year's rooms, a considered evolution signals a brand that is maturing with intent. Updating architecture and finishes rather than starting over also protects a client's investment, keeping a proven layout while giving the space a fresh, contemporary presence.
