Set in a 100-year-old building on the Chicago River, this financial firm's offices carry the industrial character of the architecture rather than concealing it. Kuchar first designed the space in 2007, and this later expansion blends the original concept with a more current sensibility — exposed concrete columns and ceilings, original brick left as the primary accent, and brass and raw-steel details that lend the interior both warmth and precision. A herringbone feature wall, built from the company's own reclaimed lumber, nods to classic menswear, while a leather-paneled conference room and gold-leaf wallcovering supply the sophistication a financial firm expects. At the center sits an employee café designed to feel like a neighborhood spot rather than a workplace.
