Camira

Camira's temporary booth, set inside Sandow's larger space, is a wonderful collaboration between Kuchar and Camira's creative team set in England.  Starting just 7 weeks before NeoCon, we got to work quickly to take Camira's vision and make it a reality.   Kuchar designed the layout and look of the hanging fabric throughout, detailed the work for construction and coordinated the different trades. The final look is a 360 experience with featured upholsteries hanging above and around you as well as on furniture in the space.  The Camira booth won the IIDA award for Best Small Showroom!

A Showroom Wrapped Entirely in Fabric

Camira is a British textile house known as much for sustainability as for craft, weaving contract fabrics from natural fibers like nettle, hemp, and flax alongside yarns recycled from plastic bottles and ocean waste. For its NeoCon presence inside Sandow's larger space, Camira wanted visitors to feel wrapped in its materials rather than simply shown a sample book. With only seven weeks before the show, Kuchar turned that vision into a full 360 experience — upholstered fabrics displayed overhead, surrounding guests on every side, and integrated into the furniture throughout the booth. Kuchar led the layout, fabric specifications, construction documentation, and coordination across trades to bring it together on a compressed timeline. The immersive result earned an IIDA award for Best Small Showroom, proof that a textile brand's story is best told by surrounding people in it.

Designing a showroom for a materials brand is a particular kind of challenge: the product is the finish, so the architecture has to put texture, color, and craft at the center of the experience. The strongest showroom design in Chicago gives a manufacturer's materials room to be touched and understood, using immersive moments that turn a passing browse into a memory. At NeoCon, where a booth has seconds to draw a designer in, designing a showroom that surrounds visitors — rather than lining products along a wall — is what separates a stand people pass by from one they step into. Thoughtful showroom work also solves the practical side: specifications, documentation, and trade coordination that let an ambitious idea come together on time.
