A Logo in Neon, and a Room Around It
Red Cloud is a boutique children's music studio in Logan Square. Kuchar designed its interior around one decision: a large-scale neon logo, set as the focal point of the room. The palette is simple and branded, built to stay out of the logo's way. The business runs on group instruction — weekly labs where beginner piano players work in small groups and practice independently at their own stations. A branded space earns its keep here. The logo is the first thing a family sees, and the first thing they remember.
Logan Square is a neighborhood of independent businesses. Its commercial life runs along Milwaukee Avenue and the streets off the boulevard system, in storefronts sized for one owner with one idea. Business interior design at that scale is a different discipline than corporate work. The footprint is fixed, every surface is visible, and the space itself has to do the marketing that a national chain buys elsewhere. One strong gesture, executed well, will outperform a room full of moderate ones. For a studio whose customers are children and the parents who choose it, that gesture has to land on both audiences at once.
