Silen Showroom
Located in Chicago's Mart, but representing Estonia, Silen is a pod manufacturer that brings focus and silence to interior spaces. Kuchar was inspired by both their Estonian culture as well as the peace the product brings. The material palette is soft and light, with colors inspired by the Estonia landscape. We emphasized the abundance of natural light this showroom gets by placing furniture strategically at each window. The overall showroom interior design is bright, peaceful and lets the product shine.

A Permanent Estonian Showroom in the Northwest Corner of THE MART
Silen, an Estonian manufacturer of acoustic office pods built to bring focus and quiet to busy interiors, came to Kuchar for its first permanent American showroom — more than two hundred square meters in the northwest corner of THE MART in Chicago, opened for NeoCon. The directive was unusual and precise: the architecture itself should demonstrate the product, so visitors feel the acoustic difference the moment they step inside. Kuchar answered with a Nordic-inspired palette of soft blues, subtle greys, and delicate whites, warmed by wood and upholstery in tones drawn from an Estonian sky at sunrise and sunset. Undulating ceiling baffles echo that sky while quietly improving the room's acoustics, and an interactive finish library invites visitors to handle the textures and colors that define Silen's customization options.
Permanent showroom design in Chicago carries a different weight than a temporary trade-show booth, since the space has to perform long after the NeoCon crowds have gone. A showroom set inside THE MART, a historic building spanning two city blocks, competes for attention among hundreds of design-forward neighbors, which makes a clear point of view essential. Showroom interior design works best when the environment proves the product rather than simply presenting it; here, the northwest corner's natural light softens the room and lets the pods read as the sanctuary they are meant to be.
