Kuchar Office
Our office space embodies who we are as a design studio- unafraid to take design risks. With bold uses of color and unique lighting, we created a space that feels creative and dynamic. The office design was inspired by color trends in fashion and interiors. The layout was designed to optimize spaces we need most- a large library and plenty of meeting rooms. We embraced the industrial nature of the high ceilings, brick walls and concrete columns, but Kuchar-fied them with our color palette.
The Studio We Designed for Ourselves
Kuchar's own studio occupies an old industrial building on West Lake Street, near the Fulton Market and Merchandise Mart design districts. The space was designed to embody the firm's culture — creative, unafraid of color, and willing to take a risk. Kuchar kept the industrial bones intact, high ceilings, brick walls, and concrete columns, then layered a fashion-informed palette over them: a pinky-beige base, dark oxblood on the glossy columns, peacock-green conference walls, and a fully tiled mint kitchen. The layout prioritizes what the team relies on most — a large library of material samples and a generous run of meeting rooms. Soft sconces, paper-lantern pendants, and abundant greenery keep the mood warm rather than corporate. The full Project Tour: Kuchar's Office walks through each room.
An office says a great deal about the people who work in it, which is why a design studio's own space carries a particular weight. In Chicago, where character-rich industrial buildings are plentiful, the opportunity lies in preserving raw architecture while introducing color, texture, and light that make a workplace feel considered. Kuchar built its reputation as an office interior design firm by treating every space as an extension of its occupant's identity — here, that occupant happened to be Kuchar itself. Bold color and rich texture prove that a luxury office interior need not read as restrained or corporate to feel polished.
A Chicago Design Partner for the Workplace
Shaping workplaces that reflect the people inside them is Kuchar's craft, backed by more than 90 years of combined industry experience. If our own studio is any measure, we design offices meant to be inhabited with pleasure, not merely occupied.
